NSCC - Project Management Report

Raw Formatted PDF File -

At NSCC in the first semester of the final year, I had a project management class where we would be tested on the concepts and theory behind IT and Project Management in general. For our final practical assignment we were tasked with preparing a project and completing it within our course. The group I was with decided to create our own game servers using a service called TCadmin. Using virtualization we would just launch a Windows Server to deploy this on and we would go from there.

Our project started with sourcing what software we wanted to use, TCAdmin was our final choice. It utilizes a backend database and is mainly designed for service providers. With a Web Base GUI, administrators can create services and users, also manage billing and resource consumption. For our project we utilized the free trial of the product without difficulty. I provided the server hardware and infrastructure on my home lab. The rest of the group would be divided into deploying and testing the remainder of the environment.

In our plan and the document above, we had to identify such things as risk factors, Stakeholder Registers, Scope Definition, Milestone list, and Project Funding Requirements. Overall the project went incredibly well with no major problems and the general flow of it taught me alot about project management and what to expect from starting with your use cases and user stories to finally creating and documenting the end goals and also being able to achieve them.

In the end, we successfully deployed TCAdmin, creating a VOIP service called teamspeak, and three game servers, some being mincraft, gmod, and TF2. These services were deployed publically and people could play on them whenever they wanted to. Completing our project and wrapping up this class.
